This comic needs an explanation. It's a 24 hour comic, meaning the whole thing was written and drawn in 24 consecutive hours (1/20/01 5:00 AM through 1/21/01 5:00 AM).

The 24 hour comic challenge was created by Scott McCloud. The basic idea is to create a feature-length comic in 24 straight hours, fast so that the artist doesn't have time to fret and second guess. Check out McCloud's 24 Hour Comics page for more information on his invention.

McCloud's ideal is 24 pages in 24 hours, but "24 Hour Haole" is only 20 pages, which is where I was when I ran out of time and energy. I knew that I wanted to do a comic with Hawaiian history/mythology, but the only direct preparation I did was to get a big stack of reference books and 2 liters of Dr. Pepper. The artwork is sloppy and I didn't fully erase the pencil sketching, but I like the resulting comic.

Enough excuses....go!
